T J Klune io ti lovvo! Allllll by myyyyyyy selllllllf. Don’t wanna be, allllll byyyyyy myyyyyy… After reading Into this river I drown from Klune I told myself that it would be safe to read anything from someone who can write like that.Unfortunately I was wrong. I hate giving bad reviews but I am afraid here comes one.
Was there a story I missed? Even though the main focus could have been the characters (we'll go to that in a sec) we still need something to build everything on, no? Or was it the fight after the hospital? Please don't say yes. This was basically a journal from day A to day Z. Nothing else. It was boring.I have to admit that I did not read the last chapter. As soon as I read "We broke up" I said - fuck this -. I endured the whole book and all the whining and drama and annoying crap for a no-happy ending? Plus, (OK, I skimmed through it), this chapter just does not belong to this book: it does not work, it's completely unrealistic (and I'm not talking about the whole haven stuff - I believe in angels and fairies if you sell them well to me). After ALL what happened, Paul can't cheat on Vince. Not on his nature.Anyway, who knows maybe at the end of the chapter he wakes up and it was a dream and I am ranting for nothing here but it would still be a waste of a chapter and a bad choice on how to end this book. The characters...Good characters is the main thing I look for. And here, well... I gotta be objective for a second. They were well built, if your aim was to create a whining, annoying, hateful, egomaniac, bitchy queen. Why on earth would you chose this as your main character? I want to beat the crap out of this guy. There is nothing likable about him. He is a plain moron. He thinks he is smart and witty but what he is is just sad and average. Usually when someone is ugly and fat and has an average dick and all the bad things that happen to this guy, he compensates in personality naturally. But not this guy.Sandy. There goes the comic relief. This "awesome" drag-queen that's supposed to... to... hmmm... I guess the intention was to make us laugh now and then? be witty and sharp and human and touch us with his story... is again, another average character that bring nothing special to the story other than an unlimited phrase count for "babydoll" and oh, yes, trying to convince his deaf friend that he is wonderful over and over. What saves the characters: the family and the parrot. They are so crazy and weird that are totally believable. A bit repetitive here and there but that's not exclusive to to them, which brings me to the next point, the writing:Unsubtle, repetitive, forced, unfunny, average.I've found myself wincing and shifting uncomfortably on my chair on numerous counts when the author decided it was necessary to elaborate on "witty" (not) jokes in case the readers would not understand.I've felt this book was writen for children. Things are over explained and retold. The story, dialogues and characters take unrealistic turns. I've found myself several times going - come on! - ...Too much writing from his point of view. It's exhausting to be inside of this annoying bitch's head. More dialog could have turned things around.I don't know what the fuck happened here Mr. Klune.THE IDEA BEHIND ?Ugly people get happy endings? They sure do, but not this one that's for sure. I've "fallen in love" in one week. I know how that works.But...OMG I came 2 months ago because my mom was dying and I met you 11 days ago from which I've only seen you 4 but you made everything go away and I can only think about you and fuck the rest?OrI don't know you but I can only sleep with you in bed?OrI don't know you but I suddenly fall in love with the ugly guy hiding upstairs with the horrible personality I still don't know about?
Sorry, no.
What do You think about Tell Me It's Real (2013)?
I read this a while back, and now I'm listening to the audiobook in the car for my commute.

That had so many parts that were laugh out loud funny to the point of tears. Very good!
