Probably my least favorite book of the Whispering Mountain series. Emily is a little cold and unfriendly, which makes her hard to like. Lewton is alright for a hero, a nice guy, but I think he is a little boring. Something between me and Lewt didn't quite click, and I'm not sure what it was about him. Most of Emily and Lewt's "romance" takes place when they are going after a captured Duncan. Really though there isn't much romance between Em and Lewt. Sure, they get along and like each other well enough, but there really isn't a spark between them until the end of the book, and even then it's not that great. It just kind of ends with Em telling her uncle Travis to marry them. What I did like about this book was Duncan. Where the story switches to Duncan it becomes an adventure of the ranger being captured and how him and another captured girl plan to escape despite the odds. I found it interesting even though most of the time they are just sitting in the locked room. I was sad when Anne decided to stay at the mission rather than go with Duncan. They weren't really romantic either, but I was hoping they would be a couple. They stars of the story are suppose to be Emily and Lewt, but I was more interested in Duncan's adventure. This book was a bit of a disappointment after Lone Texan. I stayed up all night reading this book because I LOVE this series. I was absolutely thrilled to see JT continued on the Whispering Mountain saga with the children. However, I was a little disappointed in the tone of this book. The characters are great, with lots of back story that made this an intriguing book. Unfortunately it took a long time for me to connect with the hero Lewt and his love interest Em. There was more telling than showing and neither character displayed much emotion outwardly or even internally at the best or worst of times. I almost felt as if there was a narrator reading this aloud to me in monotone for whole chapters. But my love of the plot and characters stayed with me through to the last line.
What do You think about Texas Blue (2011)?
This is the first book written by Jodi Thomas that I have read. It will not be the last.
