That Woman: The Life Of Wallis Simpson, Duchess Of Windsor (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I didn't get past page 60. From what I did read I had a hard time understanding how the author can claim the Duchess had never been intimate with her husband, could have been a hermaphrodite (she looked pretty feminine on the cover page) and grew up in absolute poverty...even though she went to an exclusive school, had friends in high places, had a "debutant" type ball. can't tell if this is fiction or fact. My opinion of Wallis Simpson is that she is a gold digging master manipulator and not a very likeable person, not the poor rags to riches girl who finds the man of her dreams. This was another reason I couldn't finish it. plus you could read as much about her on Wikipedia This was mostly a decent, well-written biography, but I find the speculative nonsense unnecessary. Tabloids and gossip-mills are expected to chatter about things like "this person MAY be a hermaphrodite" or "surely the only reason to love this person is for their secret-bedroom tricks". However, when one is writing a researched, footnoted biography, anything other than the facts or the documented opinions of others is complete rubbish. The writer should leave their personal opinions and speculation OUT of the book.

What do You think about That Woman: The Life Of Wallis Simpson, Duchess Of Windsor (2012)?

Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. Got to page 136 but lost interest.
