The Annihilation Of Foreverland (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I was hooked from the very beginning, the air of mystery got me super intrigued. You wake up on the island with Danny boy with no memories and no clue how he got there. The story follows him on his quest to find out who he is and what the hell this strange island is all about. It kept me guessing from the very beginning and I have to admit I didn't see it ending quite as it had. It was very well written and I felt fully immersed in the Foreverland world. I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. It's Science Fiction, which usually is not my genre, but I was pulled into the story very quickly. The Annihilation of Foreverland is an updated body snatching tale. I was impressed with Bertauski's ability to describe a virtual reality situation, which could be very technical, in a way that if you couldn't quite picture it visually, you could at least understand what was going on.Although characters were not developed deeply, they were boys that you were curious about and cared for. Their motivations were well defined, but maybe not completely understood.I was three quarters of the way through (having a hard time putting the book down) and convinced that I was going to read the sequel. Unfortunately, the ending kind of fell apart. Not because of plot, but because Bertauski had to explain what happened. It was kind of like watching an action flick and then the projector comes out and tells you how the movie ended. And granted, it was a complicated ending, but I wish that Bertauski had found a way to continue the story without such a lengthy explanation. It was a fun read. If you like Sci/Fi...you may really enjoy this one.
