The Bishop's Daughter (2006) - Plot & Excerpts

The third in the "Daughters of Lancaster County" and I was pleased to meet again Abraham, Naomi and Abby, with the key characters here their close friend's family of Jacob, Grace and Leona Weaver. The other strand of the book brought up to date the situation of Jimmy Scott, which I had found frustrating in the earlier books. I found this the most readable of the three books in the series. I felt involved with the characters, and learnt more abvout their Amish faith, as seen through outsider Jimmy's eyes. The feeling remained that I was reading a story set in the late 19th century and the revelation of Jimmy's secret, which was halted every time, by a stream of interruptions threatened to get tedious However it certainly held my attention and I could not put it down to find out how matters were resolved. So all in all a good read.

Out of the entire series, this one seemed the most far fetched. With Abraham's non-godly response to the outsider, with the number of tragedies, with the over all scope it was inevitable. I completed the series, but this was somewhat disappointing to see how Abraham was so resistant to jimmy even when the community member found the birthmark. It took Jimmy wanting to be Amish to melt the crusty resolve-not the fact that he had been. Missing for 20 years. The faith of Abraham --or lack of it--in this book really makes me question the author perspective on the Amish religion.

What do You think about The Bishop's Daughter (2006)?

Very frustrating to read!!!! It was excellent, like the others, but I feel the author was just trying to see how long she could string you on with the story line of zach/jimmy figuring out who he was...I feel like if that was his purpose in coming there, he wouldn't have given up so quickly in asking around, etc. As a reader, I just wanted him to discover the truth, and it was frustrating the way it took so long in the book; I was afraid the book was going to end and he was never going to know t

The Bishops Daughter is a wonderful love story that makes you feel a part of the family involved. Wanda Brunstetter is top notch writer. Any one can put smut on a page and get readers addicted but all of her books are wholesome and G rated. They hold your attention on the story line alone and keep you looking to the next book. This book is the third in the series. Each of her books stand on their own but even this series of three is hooked into another series with the same characters and family line.
