The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven: A Remarkable Account Of Miracles, Angels, And Life Beyond This World (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

I have mixed feelings about this book. It tells the story of how 6-year old Alex Malarkey survives a horrific car accident and a two month coma afterwards and what he and his family go through both during that time and in the next few years as he is rehabilitated as a quadriplegic. The book is supposedly co-authored by both Kevin Malarkey, Alex's father and Alex Malarkey although the inserts attributed to Alex are very brief and do not and have very little substance to most of them. My mixed feelings are a result of trying to do some research to find out how Alex is doing today and finding out that his mother, Beth Malarkey, has stated that Alex had nothing to do with the book. In spite of this disturbing information, I did enjoy reading about what the family went through, how God continued to provide for their needs and especially for Alex. For those looking for stories about heaven, the book will be disappointing. However, for me, all the other events of the book more than made up for a lack of stories about heaven. I liked how Kevin Malarkey showed both himself and his family to be very 'human' and how he himself struggled with his faith at times. This 6 year old boy is in a car accident with his father on their way home from church. He sees massive angels fly his fathers body out of the car and lay him down as the devil sits on the head rest looking at him saying - this is all your fault. It goes through his miraculous healing though he is still in a wheel chair currently. Things he saw, conversations with Jesus, angels communicating with him after he is returned to his body had me reading this book long into the night. Very touching and moving.

What do You think about The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven: A Remarkable Account Of Miracles, Angels, And Life Beyond This World (2010)?

This book was pretty good and very inspiring. It actually brought tears to my eyes a few times, but that may be because I have a HEALTHY son of my own and could not imagine him nor I have to go through what this family has gone through. It is a great book to renew any Christian's faith. I think the best part is that at the end of each chapter written by Alex's dad is Alex's own little mini chapter.
