The Cabinet of Earths is a great book. Like on the back of the book someone commented, "Reading this book is like discovering a treasure chest full of wonderful things," Well... I agree! It is a great story though, there are some parts that I didn't understand like, why Valko wasn't helping Maya, and why Maya's parents forget about the Cabinet all the time. Other than that it was a great book! A well deserved pat on the back and shake of the hand to Anne Nesbet! Immortality, wicked evil doers, children dealing with difficult circumstances and a sprinkling of French in this fantasy set in Paris. I loved the French influence of this book, but never bought into the fanciful premise. The reader needs to accept the fantasy as believable to the story presented, and I just never got there. The plot seemed contrived, and the characters just weren't believable enough. Maya is struggling with her mother's illness, a sudden move to Paris, and concerns about a family mystery. Her brother James is in danger, and a new friend, Valko, wants to help. I wanted to like this book but it just didn't pan out as believable or a story I could warm up to as I read.
What do You think about The Cabinet Of Earths (2012)?
Concept was promising, but the characters never grabbed me.
