The Chimp Paradox The Acclaimed Mind (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
What a gem! I am glad I browsed amazon.co.uk instead of .com, otherwise I would not have taken notice of it. It seems to be much less known in the US, while in the UK it is a bestseller. When I started reading the book, like so many other people, I was first a bit skeptical regarding the chimp metaphor including the silly appearing drawings that seem inspired by children's books.I realised the metaphor is absolutely genius. It does so many things including it automatically allows you to distance yourself from your ego or monkey mind and realise this is part of you, but not the actual you! The book touches on too many topics of personal development to list them all. However, I really liked Dr. Peters personal take on many topics, which was clearly different from so many other self-help books, which tend to copy-paste from each other. The author sets out a mind model that can be used to train your brain to think more clearly and be less susceptible to our emotional impulses. It sets out the human and chimp parts of our brain and how to manage the conflict between them. His success in sports, and positive reviews, indicates how well this has worked.I'm already re-reading my notes and will have many lessons from it that I'll take through my life.
What do You think about The Chimp Paradox The Acclaimed Mind (2000)?
Liked the writing style. Also, an interesting way of explaining how we think and make decisions.

5 stars for useful and simple metaphors. 1 star for writing style (for 10y olds). = 3 stars.

Cute analogy. Doesn't warrant a whole book.
