The Clique #13: My Little Phony (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
This book top all of the other Clique books I've read. Romance, funny, surprising and definitely DRAMATIC! It would be perfect to me if it had more romance in it because most of it was drama. But it was still awesome! Massie's world is crashing down on her literally this time. In the text it states, "Massie sank down to the floor as the reality of what they were saying sank in. She pulled her knees to her chest, with no regard for how much it was wrinkling her Massie-alls."(184) She's losing her house at the Hamptons, her credit cards (ALL of them) have been denied, and now she actually finds out she's poor! This must be the worst nightmare for Massie since she'd been rich all her life. Just to find out she had just become poor. No more clothes, no more accessories, no more designer anything. She is now broke and her life is about to change drastically. My Little Phony is a book about 5 girls- Alicia, Claire, Dylan, Massie, and Kristen. The whole book switches back and forth from Claire's point of view to Massie's point of view. Massie has a major problem. The only guy she's every lip-kissed was Derrington, a guy her age!( Not the only guy if you count her dad...)She's had her eye on Landon Crane, a gorgeous blue-eyed ninth grade boy. They've been together together for a while now, and Massie feels as if it's the right to take make a move, but is it? Without a 100% certainty, she distracts herself by getting back at Claire for ditching the Pretty Committee. Claire has moved on, and has ditched the Pretty Committee. She's had enough of the Keds jokes and the counting of empty calories. It's time she upgraded to ninth grade besties. But with Massie constantly getting revenge on her for no legit reason, Claire is getting sick and tired of Massie. When something awful strikes the Block's family, Claire tries to be a bit more friendly with Massie, understanding that she is really going through a lot. Massie, however, does not seem to want Claire's friendship. What will Claire do? I really liked this book because it's funny, and sort of relates to me as an eighth grader. On the other hand, in a way it doesn't relate to me because this book is mainly about the lives of PREPPY RICH eighth grade girls, which I most definitely am NOT. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.
