There's a lack of depth in the characters, but then again whoever who picks up this book is surely not one expecting such. This is as said by several comments - Hardy Boys meet Indiana Jones. The good part is that the leads are gays - hot, studly gays. I think sometimes there are way too many characters to remember to follow the flow properly. Still, I appreciate a story that is not merely boy-meets-boy but with adventures. 4.5 stars. It was a great mix of unbelievable action and male/male interaction. Halfway through the book I was trying to figure out who could direct it and who would act in a movie version. I could already see the special effects and I heard Indiana Jones' theme in my head. I can't wait to read the sequel. That Perron is turning into a solid villain and talk about the survival skills of the one armed man. Whew, he's going to difficult to kill.
Say you had five gay Indiana Joneses... you'd have Fathom's Five and a rollicking romp of a read. :)

Non-stop action. No time for breathing until you reach last page.
