The Day Before (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Loved this book. I liked the narrative prose and the subject. I loved that the boy and the girl allowed the day to play out without negativity and they just they enjoyed the day as it was. They lived in the moment. Yes, it was a little unbelievable that they found each other that morning and instantly fell into heavy like with one another, but it does happen occasionally. I also liked that her back story was given in small increments. I really felt I got to know the characters and their situations. Plus it was thought provoking and good for book discussions--what would you do if were in her position? Definitely recommend this book. The Day Before explores the question: What if you could have one day, just one day, to yourself to escape reality before the regular matters in life crash on you? Cade and Amber are both teenagers with problems and adversity in life. Together, they spend their one day without worrying about their life that awaits them and do things and visit places they love. This book is incredibly short. I finished it in about half an hour. I do wish it could have been longer and filled with more details of their individual lives. Dual POVs would have made this book more interesting and more lengthy. I wanted to know more about the lives of Amber and Cade apart from what little we know. (Sure, we find out the whole reason they escape their lives for the day, but I wanted to find out more about their situations to get a better understanding.) Also, the whole writing-style in verse just didn't seem to resonate with me. I felt that it was kind of unnecessary for this kind of genre.
