The Devil's Eyes (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

What the hell, guys? I got to this book because it was one of the top recommendations for people who liked Nora Robert's Honest Illusions, for which I have a soft spot as a great, fluffy romance. And it makes me doubt you, bookreads community. As someone who has a real love of fluffy romances, I thought this was totally uninteresting crap. The main characters are essentially a mafia boss and a prostitute, the female lead swoons over the hero's highhandedness and general dickishness, and the writing was distractingly terrible. Okay, obviously this is not a big deal to many people as many bestsellers are nearly as badly written, but it was filled with serial commas and cliched adverbs. I hated both characters, the sex was uninteresting, and there was no plot to speak of by the time I deleted it in disgust at about 30% Give me Nora Robert's worst book (and she has some pretty bad ones) over this. "I so need the rest of this series like yesterday!"My Audible Audiobook Review:This was the BOMB! Let me list the bombness of this book:-First we have smexy time... lots of it. From prostitution to down right romance(y) smexy time... and it was all so good!-Then we have violence... real violence...like people actually die... not in pretty ways either...like when you are a drug lord or gang king pin... you're not really all that nice...so the violence was expected...and needed for this book!- Then there was drugs, comedy, and guess what... an actual storyline!Ok... I want me some NICK so bad... I loved this book.. I loved NICK... but what I really loved was how Kayla and Nick didn't just fall in love... and Nick kinda used Kayla in the beginning... I totally knew something was up with Kayla's john.... because he got all creepy...but let me tell you... this story just flowed... I mean... I was like why is Nick doing this to her... is he crazy...then I was like...why is Kayla doing that...is she stupid... Nick is gonna kill her...and then when Kayla tried to kill Nick! OMG funny!!!Look...if your a fan of dark romance, with violence and real life situations in it...well this is definitely for you... I loved every single morsel of this ...I so need the rest of this series like yesterday!!! It is a must for Audible to get the rest of this series... INSTANT DOWNLOAD!Narration: OK... everyone who has read my reviews know I hate dual narration...but this was so good.. Like the female narrator did all the female voices and the male narrator did all the male voice... and they did it simultaneously... So let's say a conversation is going on... with multiple people... both narrators would kinda yell and talk over each other...like real conversations tend to happen, but you still can tell who is talking and what is going on because the narrators was so darn good! AMAZING! Now if all dual narration books was like this, I would eat them up with one gobble! This was great... 5-STARS! A total credit or sale book.. It is a bit pricey so a buy may not be your thing...it's well over 10 bucks...but let me tell you... It was worth it... I would buy this if I was feeling froggy... and really needed something good to listen too..

What do You think about The Devil's Eyes (2000)?

3.75/5This is one of the dark bad guy romance reads dealing with an underworld king pin. Kayla the protagonist is a strong willed female with an agenda to get even with the man who ruined her life. I had a hard time understanding why Nick had her do some of the things she did considering what you find out later in the book. It bugged me and made me have to put it down a few times. Chemistry was hit and miss and lots of drama and story lines (something constantly going on it was like can't a person catch a break?). Lots of potential and filled with lots of action in the story, not sure I will continue the series though, didn't make me fall in love with it.

This book was riddled, and I mean riddled, with spelling errors. On top of that the narrative was confusing at times, past tense, present tense, make up your mind but don't go back and forth. I normally gloss over the errors because after all it's the story that matters, but this book had so many that it annoyed me to the point that it made it less fun to read. Okay besides that, pretty cool story. Hating the cliffhanger, but that usually means you did a good job, so kudos.
