The Duggars: 20 And Counting!: Raising One Of America's Largest Families—How They Do It (2008) - Plot & Excerpts
I love this family! I have been intrigued since 2004, when they were "14 children and expecting" on the Discovery Channel. I even show this DVD to my sociology class each year. I have never understood how our modern-day "open-minded" society can find fault with this family and even cruelly criticize them. I mean if it were a liberal family situation, such as "Julie has 3 Daddies and Counting," mainstream media and society would be cheering them on and leaving reviews such as "the more, the merrier!" and labeling anyone who found fault as being "close-minded." So I state, as any liberal would if the shoe were on the other foot, if you don't like them, don't watch their show and don't read their books. But to criticize their personal CHOICE of lifestyle....well, that simply reveals a small-minded lack of character on the part of the reader/viewer!! I love watching the Duggars on tv and are happy to have contributed to their wealth by paying more than usual for a kindle book (NOT!) but I did want to read it so oh well. The book was informative and light reading which I enjoyed, but anyone who likes to watch the show might be a little disappointed in the book as a lot of it is common knowledge from the show. I don't know if I was expecting to read about to dark secrets or not, but some more things about each person's personal likes or things like that would make it more interesting, other than chapters of things that are common knowledge on the show, like the building of their house etc..
