The End Of Normal (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

The End of Normal by Stephanie Madoff Mack is about Bernard Madoff’s family before and after his investment scandal. Life for Stephanie and her husband Mark changed the day Bernard told his two sons what he had been up to. They had no idea and were shocked. The ups and downs for the next two years weighed heavy on Stephanie, Mark and their families until Mark took his life. How Stephanie tries to help Mark and how she deals with life after Mark are heart wrenching. Any excellent book I found hard to put down. Recommended by Dot, Springhill Library I'm glad I read this, as I knew almost nothing about this story, and was interested to hear it from the viewpoint of one harmed by Bernie Madoff's actions. The author was Bernie Madoff's daughter in law, married to Mark Madoff who committed suicide in 2010. I believe the author wrote the book to clear her husband's name, and to leave a legacy for her children.I had one big problem with her story: The author and her husband expected Mrs. Madoff to immediately cut off all contact with Bernie Madoff when his crimes came to light. When Mrs. Madoff could/would not do this (after a long marriage), they cut off contact with Mrs. Madoff. The author cites the mother's inability to cut off immediate contact with Bernie Madoff as a large contributing factor to her husband's suicide. I felt that was an unreasonable stance to take, and that they should have shown more support to Mrs. Madoff during this time. I do not think they should have cut off her visits to them or the grandchildren. Otherwise, I think the author has been through a lot of trauma, and I wish her and her children well.

What do You think about The End Of Normal (2011)?

I was interested in her view point of the Madoff situation. It was ok. Quick/easy read.

Average. Her "normal" was never even close to most of us.

Guilt by association. Such a sad story.
