The Entitlement Trap: How To Rescue Your Child With A New Family System Of Choosing, Earning, And Ownership (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I love the attitude these parents/authors have about teaching children ownership. Reading it has given me more confidence to raise the bar of my expectations of my children. I think it will take some time to instill some of these ideas (getting a family economy set up for kids 8 and up, getting their own checkbook for the money they earn, helping kids to follow through with goals, etc...) into my family, but I like having a direction in mind. We've already been working on some of these things, but this family has taken things a step further and is very inspiring. I love how dedicated and deliberate they were as parents to their 9 children. Really excellent parenting advice, given in a way that is actually practical and simple to put into effect. Though the authors themselves are clearly very religious, they've done a great job of using neutral language in the book so that it is perfectly suited for secular families (like mine), too. I'm passing this along to my husband and, assuming he's in agreement, we'll work on implementing the book's approach in our home.
