The Faerie Guardian, Part I (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This is my first foray into fantasy since reading Harry Potter and I was very pleasantly surprised by this little story. Being a fan of endearing characters, I was immediately drawn to Violet Fairdale. A good-hearted warrior with a tough exterior. The innocent romance that develops between her and Nate is very heart-warming and will take any reader back to their adolescent years, where we are reminded of the pangs of our first love. Then there is Ryn, whom at first I didn’t care much for but then as the story draws to a close, I get to know him a little better and find out depths of who he really is which actually contradicts my first impression of him.It is a fantastic little tale in a world that is skilfully described by the author and provides a vivid picture for the reader; I also loved the constant sarcastic banter between Ryn and Violet. I am giving Mrs Morgan 4 stars for her story because it has all the elements of a good fantasy and I loved how she develops her characters at a rate that keeps the reader turning pages. The quality of the writing is top notch because it reads very easily and her prose flows beautifully. The only draw-back for me is the length of the story, it seems like the pages ran out before the end. This was a fun, magical read. It was well-written with some great characters introduced and a brilliant backstory which kept me engaged as a reader and had me connecting to the characters. I loved the main character Vi and really felt for her when she was conflicted between her life as a role model pupil and her feelings for Draven. A great read that I felt could have been a little longer so that character and story development didn't seem as rushed. But a good, solid read, and I will definitely continue with this series.
