Not sure what about this book caught me so completely. It was engagingly written, funny, poignant, informative, personal. The recipes were intriguing enough to make me want to try them. We're trying a CSA for the first time this year and I'm worried about using everything and how to preserve the bounty. I love to cook and bake but have been losing the enthusiasm to do so lately. For all that and more I enjoyed this book tremendously. It gets a little preachy at times, a little repetitive but overall very enjoyable. I think I'll be checking this out of the library again for specific advice and recipes. I borrowed this book from the library a few months ago and only got as far as the introduction. I hated it! It seemed like another book about a woman going through a divorce and bitter about the whole thing. There are enough people in my life like that and taking the time to read about it seemed ludicrous. Finally with nothing left to read I picked it back up and skipped the introduction and got straight into it. This book surprised me with how much I fell in love with it after immediately hating it. The author very rarely mentions her divorce but does describe meeting new friends and making new connections in her new location. She is from Michigan and moved here were the book takes place and the people she talks to and the situations are very much a part of the Michigan life I know. I will probably be buying this book to reread and to try some of her recipes.
LOVED this book after finding it following Barbara Kingsolver's A-V-M. RE-reading, even!
