It had been a tight game, and now his team was behind by a field goal. He had to make this pass a touchdown or they’d lose the game and the chance to go to the playoffs. No pressure. His heart pounded heavily against his chest and drops of sweat fell from his forehead as he looked down at the grass one last time. The calls were made, the ball was thrust into his hands and he ran backward while his massive offensive line plowed the field for him. He looked left and saw his receiver flying down the field toward the end zone. He pulled his arm back and, in his peripheral vision, saw a blur in the other team’s colors coming at him from the side. Cameron let the ball go and a fraction of a second later the blur that was headed right for him was tackled to the ground. He stepped back out of the way, narrowly missing being steamrolled. He looked down the field, as did most of his teammates.
