Genre: Modern FantasyThis fun spin on the traditional tale takes the reader on an adventure through the school. The poor gingerbread man gets left behind when the kids rush out the door for recess! He checks in with the coach, school nurse, and the principal before he finds out the kids were actually looking for HIM!Ways to use the book: This can be compared to the original tale (possibly with a Venn Diagram) or used for mapping (there are quite a few school floor-plans included). It's also just a FUNNY read-aloud. I had heard a teacher recommend this book and had been trying to find it ever since--without a title or an author or anything but a vague description that can be a challenge!--yeah me, to just stumble across it on one of our shelves the other day. Serendipity in shelf-reading. This was as delightful as the teacher described and perfect as a complement with activities for introducing students to school on their first day.
Story didn't grab me. Certainly an alternate to the gingerbread boy running away.
