The Good And Beautiful God: Falling In Love With The God Jesus Knows (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
The introduction to this book is extremely lame. In fact, so lame that I thought the book would be a chore. It wasn't.Rather, it was one of the best books I've ever read on God. (I think my view of God changed while reading this)> Aptly titled, it showed God as both good and beautiful, there for us, on our side.If you question whether the Creator of the Universe wants your best, this book is the book for you. This book is a good book for the serious Christian who wants to find better balance in life and a better relation to the Jewish-Christian God. It tries to provide correcting narratives to Christians who have negative and ugly narratives about God. The balance in life comes from living thoughtfully. This book encourages taking time and assessment of the readers life. Perhaps it focusses too much on rest from beginning to end. It might be improved through a chapter on how to do work and exercise well along with the focus on rest and quiet. A monk's life was to provide a balance of work and rest before God. However, within our culture where productivity and idleness are the definitions of good and evil, this book is a good corrective. The most important thing about the book is to actually do the life practices without reading the book to fast. A chapter a week is too fast!
