The Great Unexpected (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I don't feel quite as positively about "The Great Unexpected" as my 4/5 star rating suggests. If partial stars were allowed, I'd give it about 3.75/5 stars. I LOVED the book... until the last 50 pages or so. The ending was not what I was anticipating. I don't know what I WAS anticipating but I definitely feel dissatisfied. It was ambiguous but not in a good way: I still have questions but I feel like everything was also wrapped up in a nice, tidy bow. But the characters were interesting and lovable, I liked her writing style, and both settings (US & Ireland) were cool. I'll be reading more Sharon Creech in the near future, for sure. This was probably a weird book to start with; I plan to backtrack and read some of her classics. I thought that this book was a great book, it was really meaningful to me especially because of the theme. This theme is all about how if you really want to perservere in your life, now matter your past you should always look forward rather than back. This is a great lesson for people who have had or might be having a hard life. I reccomend this book for those people. This was a great book and it tought me a great lesson. This book had many great qualities to it and I would recommend it to people ages 10 and up. That would be because anyone under the age of ten would most likely be confused. About it rather than the ones older than ten. I loved this book and I will always keep it close to my heart. Even though this book starts as two different stories they eventually come together to make a better plot. This book was good and eventually everyone is so happy. I love the way they started it as two separate stories and morphed into one. That was my favorite part about the book. I just want to explain that this book was not only written well but it was also expressed well.

What do You think about The Great Unexpected (2012)?

Creech is a great storyteller...she just needs a stronger story to tell.
