The High King's Golden Tongue (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
One of the things that I've found I gravitate towards in the books I read is when it seems like everyone underestimates the main character. This theme is prevalent in a lot of Megan's books, particularly in this one. You have Allen, a prince who takes his future role seriously and does his best. We can all appreciate and empathize with that, right? And then you have the fact that no one recognizes his abilities and ridicules him! I found that it was really easy to get into his journey to prove the High King and the rest of the court wrong in their assumptions. I love Megan Derr, and this story was a good sample of why. Short, sweet, not too much conflict involved, but I loved the characters and world in which they lived. Smart characters, they were very enjoyable to read about. I only wish it had been longer, with more of Allen's and Sarrica's lives before meeting, more build up to the conflict, and expansion upon how they get on as a family afterwards. But I highly recommend it as is anyway!
