The House Of The Four Winds (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I LOVED this book! It was so awesome! So the reason I picked it out on my library's web page was because of the cool cover, I mean ships, swords and cool pseudo colonial outfits how awesome is that! So anyway it was written very well, I don't like third person books a lot of times because they often feel, unreal. But this one was very well written and I found it easy to think I was in first person once I got into it. It did take me a few chapters to start looking forward to what was happening next just because it took its time in setting up the background for the story but after that, it was great. I loved Clarice, she was way cool and easily likable. Dominick was great, its nice to have a male heroine that's not just the strong silent type. And the bad guy (Or gal in this case, another nice twist) was a great villain. Evil and heartless through and through. There is one part towards the last of the book that's a bit frightening. The evil woman's right hand man, (A giant mute with incredible strength) rips a sailor that disobeyed her to pieces, kind of frightening but other than that a great read. So Five stars for a cool cover, a strong heroine, a good hero and a great villain. I picked up this book at the local library on a whim. I was looking for a new fantasy novel to read and one with a female lead intrigued me along with the seafaring backdrop, which was something I had not read in a story for sometime. Though it started a bit slow and I found some early difficulties really getting into the story, I soon became thoroughly engaged and immensely enjoyed the story. Weaving Greek mythos with pirates, thaumaturgy, drakes and more, the House of the Four Winds is worth checking out. As I alluded to earlier, having a female main character for once was great to see, especially a strong one such as Clarice.I look forward to future installments in this new series.

It was two and a half stars. The ending stubbed its toe and is squinting for a sequel.

Long time to get into it but once I did, it was good.

Okay plot, smart heroine, boring hero, lame romance.
