The Invisibles Omnibus. Grant Morrison (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
It's a masterpiece, but it also doesn't make sense all the way through -- a common problem with Morrison -- and the art is so inconsistent. Reading the Phil Jimenez and Phillip Bond chapters, it makes the fact that other artists even worked on this thing kind of disappointing. Still, it's lightyears ahead of the time it was published -- the ideas in it are pretty bold even today -- and it wants to be something in ways that few pieces of pop culture strive for. This is the best possible version of Grant Morrison's masterpiece - my favorite piece of literature.Grotesque and beautiful, the Invisibles taught me how to be a human being, a spiritual animal, a disinformationist, and a magician. I cannot overstate The Invisibles place in forming me; I'm not going to try to be coherent in this brief a context. This Omnibus edition is a stunning feat of bookmaking and I'm wild about it. I can't wait to start again.
