The King's Gold: An Old World Novel Of Adventure (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

The storyline itself, a kind of treasure hunt, was fairly decent, but there are several reasons this book received only two stars from me. The start of this adventure was totally unbelievable: an unwitting woman being abducted from her place of business by a man who is sure she can solve the clues which lead to the treasure and then, when they reach the airport for departure, leaving it up to her whether to actually go or not. Adding to that bizarre start, there is also the matter of the frenetic dialogue throughout the whole story. Every character in the book has this same style of speaking so that it is basically impossible to distinguish who is talking. I only kept reading to the end because I actually purchased this book. If it had been borrowed from the library it would have been returned after reading to about page 40.

I didn't like this as much as the first one. After a while, there is just too much craziness. I never did get a good feel for why the main charqacter was so invested that she would risk her engagement to a man she loved and her life to chase down (literally) a relatiely obscure literary puzzle. She's sort of manic, her kidnapper is a homicidal maniac, her mother is wild, her hal-sister is a litle crazy, about the only sane person is her adopted father. I finished it but at times I wanted to say, W"Go home you idiots!". The first one , "Queen's Jade", was fun in a "Romancing The Stone" way, but it just doen't work the second time.
