Kit Turner began earning his own way in the world at a young age by playing female roles in the Elizabethan Theater. In a time of religious and political upheaval, Kit is used to equal parts approval and disapproval. However, when he falls in love with puritan Mercy Hart, Kit works to change his life for the better.This clever historical fiction shows glimpses of a budding William Shakespeare and the world and theatrical attitudes as he begins his career. It shows the culture of the time period wrapped up in an interesting story and likable characters. Well....it was alright. It wasn't quite as exciting as The Other Countess, even though Kit went to jail. But come on, Mercy SO BORING! Kit is exciting, dashing a player! And Mercy is drab, dull and God-fearing as always because of her already dull family. But other than that, it was the classic Eve Edwards story. The Lacey boys, are, as always wonderful! I loved Will, and James and now Tobias has a wonderful role in the being the reckless little brother. Kit is a good character, dynamic and wonderful to read about.I loved Aunt Rose, she was hilarious and SILAS! even funnier. Milly and Diego are wonderful, as always and it's a good book all in all, despite Mercy's strange opinions (like there is no such things as sex). I recommend though.
