The Life Of Lee (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

brilliantly funny, really honest and actually surprising! If you like a laugh, this is the book for you. I laughed until I had a stitch in my side at some moments and I just wanted to cry at others. It is good to see how a guy who was raised like any other 'regular joe' has made something of himself, even if he doesn't really see how good he is. I could actually picture Lee acting out what he was saying in the chapters, goofing around like he is known to on stage. this just made me laugh even harder! Overall, this is a good read and will serve to make you fell good about yourself as well. It gives me the impression that I can conquer the world if I put my mind to it. I have to admit that when I heard this book stopped before Lee Evans becomes famous I was dissapointed and my desire to read it dwindled slightly so I can understand if this is your attitude as well. However, I would urge anyone who is a fan to read this book because it is fantastic. The blurb on the inside of the book stated that the book is hillarious, I didn't find that at all but it really didn't take away from the enjoyment I got from the book. So, not funny, in fact for a large portion of the book it's a heart wrenching story of a guy who from a young age has struggled to fit in and felt the need to act the fool to be accepted. When you see Lee Evans perform you get the feeling he's incredibly appreciative for the success he now has. It could be thought that this is just a part of his act but after reading this it's easy to see why. He and his wife had a terrible start to their luck together. A complete lack of money, family problems, personal tragedies, Lee's struggle to hold down a job and be easy to manipulate by con men made their lives at times a living hell. Despite all of the above this isn't a sob story. It's a very honest account of Lee's life and does end on a great high. Like a lot of people who've read this I do hope he writes a follow up telling how he took the next step to super stardom.
