The Little Bit Scary People (2008) - Plot & Excerpts
It was pretty sweet. Good for kids who are easily intimidated by people in authority. A girl has an active imagination about all the "scary" people (her principal, a teacher, the bus driver) and how, when they go home, the scary people must not be scary (they take dance lessons and play with their kids). Then she points out people in her family who could be considered scary. It is really cute, perfect for a one on one story time and teaching kids about adults. A little girl goes through the story and sees people who she thinks are a little bit scary, but she thinks about them in a different way. She thinks that if she really knew them they’re probably not that scary. I could use this book to teach students that there is more to people than what you may see on the outside. I could also teach them that they should get to know people first because they could miss out on a friendship if they just judge by the outward appearance. I could have my students write about what makes them special; what is something that people might not know about them by just looking on the outside and not getting to know them.
What do You think about The Little Bit Scary People (2008)?
A little girl looks past what people do to what they might really be like. Not so scary, usually.

What a great book about not judging a book by its cover.
