The Mercy Rule (1999) - Plot & Excerpts

Another great legal procedural from JL. Dismas by this time has won two clients freedom from murder charges and is gaining quite a bull dog reputation. But he has promised Franny that he will do no more murder cases, strictly calm boring legal issues. But Dismas's life just doesn't work that way and before he blinks he is mired in another murder case...or is it that cut and dried? Is this a case of assisted suicide? Now that his client is absolutely refuting the claim that he had anything to do with his dad's death, Hardy must start pulling his rabbits out of their hats in order to clear his client. Let's hope that one of those rabbits doesn't turn on Hardy and make him regret not following Franny's edict of no more murders.

"An old man suffering from the implacable advance of Alzheimer's is found dead, an empty morphine vial by his side: obviously suicide. Or did someone - a loving son, perhaps, help him die? Who would blame him? But Graham Russo insists that he had nothing to do with his father's death. A claim, that as more and more incriminating evidence comes to light, even his lawyer, Hardy, finds increasingly hard to believe. But despite his unease about his engaging but unreliable client, Hardy knows that there is no way he can abandon Russo when the politicians turn him into the pawn at the heart of the media issue of the year..."
