The Midwife's Here! The Enchanting True Story Of One Of Britain's Longest Serving Midwives (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

A well-written book that gives insight into the recent history of medicine. We get to follow a young woman through nursing school, then through midwife training, and finally into the beginning of her career as a midwife. We are treated to excellent descriptions of the ups and downs of this journey, and are able to see her world through her eyes. A fast read, and one that leaves you looking forward to the next book wherein the journey continues. Loved this book. Fairley started her nursing training in the "swinging sixties," so we are contemporaries. When I was in high school, I worked as a ward helper in a hospital. So much of her early days in the hospital reminded me of that time. Outside of her hospital experiences, Fairley talks about the sixties culture--the Beatles, the mod clothing, and the rest of the best of the British invasion. There is another series concerning midwives written by Jennifer Worth, but I haven't read that.

What do You think about The Midwife's Here! The Enchanting True Story Of One Of Britain's Longest Serving Midwives (2012)?

I found this book boring. Too much about her not enough about being a midwife.

I really enjoyed this book. It was quite an emotional rollercoaster.

A sweet book, reminiscent of James Herriot's work.
