The Mighty Queens Of Freeville: A Mother, A Daughter, And The People Who Raised Them (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

Is this really my first review? and plunking it out on my phone, no less. I saw so much of my life in this book. I am tempted to highlight every passage that could have been written by me...if, of course, I could write. What I want to share, however, is that this book is about you. Perhaps that is why Amy is "Ask Amy". She simply relates well. If you are a single mom, from a family of strong women, a fan of Edith Wharton, a cat person, a writer, a daughter, a Sunday school teacher, a dork, a musician, a farm kid, or one who perseveres...well, I bet you will find some of yourself here as well. This is a memoir by Amy Dickinson, the new "Dear Abby".I thought from the description on the back of the book that this would be story of strong female family members in a small town coming together to help Amy through her divorce and struggles as a single mother. But it seemed to be more of a tirade against her father, who left her mother after 23 years of marriage, when Amy(the youngest child) was 12, although the way Amy tells it makes it sound like he ran out on his family after a few short years of marriage and the kids were all in diapers. And she is very bitter about her own divorce. My favorite part of the book was the stories about her daughter.I just didn't really like Amy that much after reading her story.
