The Millionaire Messenger: Make A Difference And A Fortune Sharing Your Advice (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I got this book as part of a much larger package that I got with Brendon's company (Experts Academy). I was investing in myself because I was in the process of writing my first book and talking with a publishers.Brendon provides you with a lot of good content that makes you think about the possibilities of what you can accomplish, and he gives you some direction of how you can move forward to reach those goals. However, my opinion is that he is treading on a thin line. After watching his videos I honestly believe there is a portrayal that becoming a million dollar producer is easier than it actually is and it is possible to develop unrealistic expectations, but that is also part of sales. As for the book it is a good intro to the realm of being an expert. It provides you with a teaser to see if this is something that interests you, and you may even pick up a few nuggets of wisdom that help you professionally. There was a little too much emphasis on social proof for my liking, and I thought the book was more of tool to up-sell you to something else.If you are a novice that is looking into getting into this "Guru" market place I think it is a pretty good place to start and you may want to give it a read. The thing I liked best about the Millionaire Messenger, is that Brendon understands the entrepreneurial mind. He knows what the entrepreneur wants to achieve and even how they want to achieve it. He then breaks that down with step-by-step directions on what the entrepreneur needs to do to achieve that, and focuses mostly on the thought processes necessary to do that. On the downside, the book falls short on exacting steps to, for example, set up a website, though, as he says, there are plenty of places to learn how to do that (or to find someone to do that). He explains what you want the site to accomplish. The book's lists can, at times, feel repetitive, and too general. I get the feeling he made an outline of everything he wanted to teach, then called it a book. This is not to say the lists aren't helpful, they are. But at times, I just skipped over them thinking... I can come back to this part, and since many chapters have these lists, I started skipping through a lot. (Later, going back, I did a lot of head work and did revisit some of the lists.)My favorite part of the book is Brendon telling his personal story and how he became who he is. I also liked reading about how he is changing the entrepreneurial world by bringing them together to learn "best practices" and to share in what's working and not.
