Kirk entered after Stasi, with Thad trailing his childhood best friend, lingering just out of his mother’s range of sight behind the privacy curtain that shielded the hospital bed from the door. From her vantage point just inside the doorway, Monica could see all of them, though they couldn’t all see one another. Thad glanced at her, and she gave him an encouraging smile.
