Pete Blaber strikes the perfect balance between operational memoir and practical leadership advice accrued from a successful career as a Delta operator in The Mission, the Men, and Me. Superbly written with clarity and in a conversational tone at times, this book is a cut above the myriad other similar works by military officers in the genre. Blaber's intellectual and operational boldness in his resolute adherence to his guiding principles even when up against the rigid command and control military heirarchy is admirable and speaks to the high caliber officer he is and what unconventional thinking brings to the fight. I would recommend this enjoyable read to any aspiring military officer. Yes, another war book indeed! I really enjoyed this book. After reading Lone Survivor and Joker One I was expecting to be taken right into combat again and expecting the same kind of format when it came to telling the story. I was pleasantly surprised when I came to find this book doesn't only tell one but many stories. Pete Blaber is a former Delta Force Commander who recounts several experiences he endured during his career and then reminiscing on the life lesson he learned from each experience. It was really neat to learn more about the Special Forces unit specifically and then to also reflect on what he is conveying the reader as far as the lessons he learned. It really doesn't matter if you're a Delta Force Commander, a business owner or a mother with a family.. in life, we all have lessons to learn. Pete Blaber gives excellent insight in his book about how we can all have better success in this thing called life.
A good read, and probably should be required for any person in a position of management.
