The Night Parade (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

The Night Parade is a silly, imaginative book. Roscoe has created a "secret world" of sorts where children nightly sneak out of their houses and do amazing things with other children. Things like make cakes for the moon, turn somersaults in the park, dress up in costumes, tell mermaid stories, etc. They also read LOTS AND LOTS of books. By morning, all children will be safely back in their beds. This one was okay. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. The children are super-active, super-creative. The illustrations match the playfulness of the text. My favorite page was probably of the children marching by in their costumes. Even the moon is dressed up. Then again, I also liked the idea of all those cakes and all that frosting. The Night Parade is a warm and soothing good night tale for little ones told in rhyme. “Have you ever wondered what happens at night while mothers and fathers lie sleeping?” The narrator has a wonderful imaginative view of what children do when their parents go to bed. The little ones wake up and go sneaking into town to dance under the stars, sing songs, and make sweet treats for the moon. The fun doesn’t end there; they play games in the dark, build castles, and have marching band parades. And finally they read books – mountains of books, with mystical tales about all those wonderful things that children love. But just like all good books and stories read before bedtime, the little ones get sleepy and head for home, crawl into bed and say good night to the moon. This easily read story will be a night time favorite to be read over and over whether before bed or any time at all.
