A bit different from the normal 'chick lit' read, this one contains all the usual elements of a romance, interspersed with copious doses of fantasy, and does it very well. So well, in fact, that before too long, a golden horse that speaks to the main character appears to be quite normal. The storyline is interesting and the characters are believable - there is a slight twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. The prose is vivid and evocative, and the exploration of human nature and the way we treat each other is thought-provoking. A good read . . . This was my favourite of Taylor's books. Firstly it's not a trilogy. I like a book just to be resolved and have the whole story included in one. Secondly the issues covered here were sort of everyday but with her compelling style of writing really well portrayed. and she is very funny too. the sense of humour is right up my street so I was chuckling along like a mad woman at some of the bits. easy n entertaining; great holiday read. again the heroine is a little overdramatic sometimes as with the St. Mary's books but then again it is sort of good going on the whole thought process journey with her as she takes the plunges. she doesn't know what will happen and neither do we. and changing her mind is a woman's perogative. so I think this one is a winner for me so far... out of the ones I have read.
