The Outback - Plot & Excerpts

Matt in particular was eager to hear news of Jenny’s condition and he met the bus before it had even parked up. He noticed at once the distress in Sam’s features and expected the worst.
‘How is she?’ he asked, as soon as the automatic door slid open.
Sam looked at first confused by the question, but then realisation dawned.
‘Your friend is doing just fine,’ he replied. ‘She will make a full recovery, but right now I am more concerned by what has happened here. I passed Rhett on my way in.’ ‘That’s a long story.
First we need to get Colin to a doctor. Paul can fill you in on the way.’ Sam refused to be harried.
‘Slow down there, fella.
We ain’t going nowhere yet. I picked up a flat on the drive back. You boys can help me get it changed.’ ‘But...’ his voice trailed off as he thought better of it.
Although Matt was frustrated, it would have been pointless to complain about what was beyond anybody’s control. He took the jack from Sam and then he and Stephen set about removing the damaged tyre, whilst the elder man retrieved the spare from the underside of the bus’ rear.
