This book was a really good book that I couldn't put down. I was always trying to read it. It is about a girl whose father is in the army. He stays away a lot and so Hannah and her mother. Hannah starts volunteering at a horse stable because she needs a place to escape. Her father has returned from the Iraq war as an amputee with posttraumatic stress disorder, and his nightmares rock the household. Every night he dreams the same horrid thing and even a crash during the day can send him tearring into stress. At the stable, Hannah comes to love Jack, Super Dee, and Indy; helps bring a rescued mare back from the brink; and witnesses the birth of the filly who steals her heart. Hannah learns more than she ever imagined about horse training, abuse, and rescues, as well as her own capacity for hope. Physical therapy with horses could be the answer to her fathers prayers, if only she can get him to try The Outside of a Horse is truly an amazing book. This review contains no spoilers. It's about Hannah Gale, a 13 year-old girl who's father returns from Iraq and her mother died. She befriends horses next door and gets a job. I've read this book at least 3 times. I loved it. I am a horse crazy girl and this is just another book to add to any horse lover's book shelf. The story is touching and it really opened my eyes. I believe I cried too!Ginny Rorby did a fantastic job with this novel. Be sure to pick this one up!
