The Pleasure Of Your Kiss (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I was surprisingly bored by this novel about a well-to-do woman captured on the way to meet her fiancé, a mucky-muck in the East India Company. She is sold into a harem in Morocco, or rescued by the harem's owner, an English-educated man, depending on you point of view.Said fiancé is a lord, and can't leave his post, so he enlists his never-do-well brother, a well-known adventurer, explorer, rake.Of course our heroine is learning about pleasure while trying to avoid her capturer/rescuer's bed. Then the brother comes to the scene. Seems he is her long lost love — she gave up her virginity to him — another reason to avoid the rescuer's bed — and waited for him.He believes she didn't wait, but will save her anyway. Of course they are still hot for each other, and guilt over the brother, fiancé plays a part in their tortured tale. But still ... I LOVE Teresa Medeiros' earlier works. But lately, she's gone the way of a lot of my favorite historical romance authors ... what happened? I call it the cookie-cutter syndrome. Maybe the pressure to keep producing book after book after book for her publisher is just sapping her strength. I don't know. I hate to give one star, because of my sentimental attachment to many of her previous titles, but I want to be honest. The last couple of releases just haven't worked for me.Maybe the next book will be better!
