At first I wasn't too sure about this book since the cover had a bonnet covered woman on the front, but by the end of it, I realized how wrong I had been. I'm not really a fan of Amish or Puritan type books... there are just so many out there and it was pretty clear from the title and the back cover that Elizabeth marries John. But I was drawn to this book because of the author, Jody Hedlund who is one of my favorites. I am never disappointed by anything she writes and the Preacher's Bride was no exception. I didn't realize that this book was based on a true story until the very end. The book has drama, politics, true struggles and of course romance. Characters were great and at first Elizabeth seems like a saint but as the story progresses, we can see she has insecurities and faults like every one else.I finished this book within half a day and I highly recommend. Methinks this is a wonderfully well written work! Hedlund delved into some deep water when taking on the task of writing about a time in history so wrought with government unrest that much of the true accounts of the Puritan people have been lost or destroyed. The reign of Cromwell (and his successing son) as High Lord Protector of England and the disintegration of this reign are widely considered a folly or blight on the history of a proud nation, yet from the rubble a stronger faith was born; faith that mirrors that of the apostles of Jesus who suffered many persecutions. Thank you Jody for taking this subject on! Well done!
What do You think about The Preacher's Bride (2010)?
Good story missed because of basic writing; almost like a cheap novel for maids...

Based on the true story of John Bunyon. Loved it!
