Her room was kept dark most of the time. The nurse came in about every hour to check on her. She took her vital signs, although she seemed to know that Amber was feeling better and wasn’t sick anymore. She didn’t know what was going on. She couldn’t leave her room because the door was locked from the outside. But she wasn’t tied up or threatened, and nobody seemed worried that she might scream. After Mr. Morrotti’s visit, Amber thought that this was some kind of kidnapping plot. He wanted to get information about her involvement with Josh, but she’d repeatedly told him that she didn’t know him that well. She was just a passenger on his cruise line. None of his questions made sense to her. Maybe he just wanted to get money out of her family because her dad was governor. Whether these people wanted money or some kind of political connection, Amber knew now that she hadn’t been “rescued.” She wondered if Josh had been in on the scheme. He was insistent that she was in danger and needed to leave the ship with him.
