It was such a private thing to purchase, right out in public. Silverdell’s only drugstore was on Elk Avenue, on the town square next to Donovan’s Dream, the café where Tess had eaten several nights ago...and where she’d seen just about everyone in town. But so what? She wasn’t going to drive to Crawford, or Montrose, just to avoid gossip. No one around here cared what she did, anyhow. She was a stranger, of little more interest than any of the tourists passing through for ski season. If they’d known she was Johnny Wright’s illegitimate daughter... But they didn’t. She could buy a hundred pregnancy tests without raising a single eyebrow, no doubt. Besides, if she really were pregnant, a gossipy drugstore clerk was the least of her problems. So she got up early the next day, New Year’s Eve, grateful that Ashley was well and could handle the appointments, and headed for Sterling Prescription Shoppe.
