She closed her laptop and pushed away from the desk. After her visitor left and a couple glasses of wine, she might dig up the courage to compose a note to Vince. She didn’t bother to hurry downstairs to the foyer. The longer she dragged out this interruption, the better. Stopping for a quick sniff of the gardenia bouquet she’d picked up on her way home, she finally reached for the doorknob as the bell rang a second time.
