The Sign Of The Crooked Arrow (1992) - Plot & Excerpts
It's probably been close to 50 years since I read this, so I can't recall any details or give a pertinent review. However, I CAN say this much: if not for the Hardy Boys series by the esteemed Franklin W. Dixon, I might not be an avid reader today. The life-threatening dilemmas in which Frank and Joe always managed to find themselves, and which they always survived AND got the bad guys arrested, were absolutely captivating to my young imagination. While reading these stories, I WAS the Hardy Boys... BOTH of them! One day I told my mother I was bored... the old "there's nothing to do" whine. She told me that whenever she got bored she would read a book, because in a book you can go anywhere and do anything, without leaving the house. That simple explanation got me running to the bookshelf, looking for something that might interest me. There was at least one Hardy Boys book there ("Mystery of the Clock Tower" or something close, I believe) that my parents had been buying now and then in the hope that I would "discover" them on the shelf and start reading. Well, I didn't discover them until my mother's comment, but I was soon lost in the world of the two teenage sleuths.I've read many of the Hardy Boys books, although nowhere near all of them. I still have all my old ones, safely stored in a box in the basement. I could drag them out and start reading them again today, and would enjoy them just as much as I did 50 years ago. Thanks to the efforts of Franklin W. Dixon, I am an avid reader today.Thank you, Mr. Dixon.
