The time travelers are back at it again. They are fixing the "breaks" in history through their own unique experiences. This one is my favorite so far because it is set in the US before the Civil War. The author really helps you experience how different our world is today than it was then. LIttle things that we take for granted and don't even think about today weren't possible then. It isn't a time period that presents people at their best, but the story doesn't forget to give the positives about the strength of some people in the face of horrible circumstances. The twist of the Ilsa character is an interesting twist and I look forward to seeing if it goes the directions I think it will. Eh. This series has been disappointing since the first book came out. The time travel is not up to the standards that I had set Scholastic to. It's not realistic at all. The story is decent, though it's a little...far fetched is not the right term, but it's the best word right now. Two eleven year olds taking down grown men? I don't think so, especially if they don't have superpowers. Plus, genius kids is one thing, but these kids, especially Sera, are too smart, I think, and not accurately portrayed as child geniuses. If I didn't have loyalty to Scholastic and to the authors, I would stop reading this series.
What do You think about The Trap Door (2013)?
It was really good. This time Riq is a "slave".He has to escape and gets separated from the group.
