The Truth About Love And Lightning (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

A tornado goes through Gretchen’s farmland, bringing with it a familiar stranger. This stranger is found under a walnut tree with no memory of who he is or how he got there. The stranger reminds Gretchen of her long lost love Sam Winston the father of her daughter Abby and the man that’s been missing for almost 40 years. Many years ago Gretchen told a very big lie. She has lived in fear of that lie coming out since she told it. When the Man Who Might Be Sam comes to the farm, she is scared the truth will come out and that the truth will truly hurt the people who meant the most to her. I have ordered "Little Black Dress" from my library, to see if this title is an engaging. Recommended for readers who enjoy the magical realism of Alice Hoffman or Sarah Addison Allen. Of course, you must (possibly) have to suspend reality but you expect to or even relish that in this style of book. Susan McBride makes these characters and possibility come alive. My only complaint is that ending seems a little rushed but when I pondered it I realized that there was nothing else to truly add so I suppose the author made the right choice after all. A sweet, feel- good , heartwarming tale. Sometimes just what you need on a gray, wintry day.
