The Tsunami Countdown (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

TSUNAMI COUNTDOWN by Boyd Morrison is a fast page turner novel. Fast, because it is well written, interesting and suspenseful page after page. A space rock strikes the Pacific Ocean and sends waves outward to the chains of islands. Kia Tanaka, director of the warning center for Tsunami's must act to protect family and public lives. A great read, the book is broken down by chapters that want you to keep turning those pages. Well researched, thrilling, and believable, this is a not a beach novel to read in the sand while gazing at thee ocean. It is just too intense! Very informative about tsunamis - less than desirable character development. Boyd Morrison does a good job of giving the reader a ton of information on tsunamis, which is a good thing. He does this without being boring or stale. However, I didn't find myself caring much for the characters. When they were in imminent danger, I was more concerned about having to get out of bed for a refill of Makers Mark. When a few of them inevitably died, I didn't really care. Oh well...He does a good job of keeping up the pace, and writing entertaining action sequences. However, the dialogue was sort of corny and he beat to death the concept that the majority of people are selfish, with an entitlement mentality who expect other people to take care of them. It was hard to believe that the only people in Hawaii who were trying to help other people were the main character, his wife, and the coast guard. Entertaining read if you are interested in tsunamis and have a free afternoon... not much else to see here.
