The Umbrella, written and illustrated by Ingrid & Dieter Schubert, is 40 page children’s wordless book published by Lemniscaat USA in 2011. It was written for first through third grade. This book with its’ wonderful illustrations takes us on a journey around the world via the seven continents. The illustrations capture the feel of each continent’s infamous geography. Lots of regional plants and animals come to life with each page and can be easily identified. Because it is wordless, would be better if used with second or third grades since they will need some prior knowledge of plants and animals. This world less picture book is about a dog who finds an umbrella in a garden on a windy day. The moment the dog picks up the umbrella, it catches the wind and pulls the dog skywards. This is the beginning of a fantastic journey around the world. The wind carries the umbrellas and the dog all over the world. One thing i really liked about this book was the pictures, they are very vivid. I would definitely recommend this book!
Gorgeous illustrations. No text leaves for plenty of imaginative possibilities for storyline.
