An excellently written history of the efforts to put "science" into political science. I had heard a lot about the "data-driven" and "experimental" Obama campaign, and it was fascinating to see the background that led up to it. Simple things such as putting "Learn More" instead of "Sign up" can make big differences in how people respond. It also really put into perspective just how involved, and complicated a presidential political campaign is. Few other things in the world reach out and touches 180 million adults, or even a significant fraction of that number. The Victory Lab is a great compilation of the history of political campaigns and the influence statistics has made on political campaigns. I throughly enjoyed this book. It is not for those who are looking into the secrets of how to boost your campaign numbers nor for those who are interested in the raw data that such research methods can give. However, throughout the book it talks about such books and places to get ideas for campaign research and strategy. I enjoyed learning about how both political parties have used math and research to influence people into voting. It was great to see how much little things can affect a person to vote. After reading this book I am going to be paying more attention to the coming elections and try to see if anything else that wasn't written about in the book comes about. The Victory Lab was an overall good and enlightening read.
Fascinating and supremely boring at the same time.
