The Walking Dead, Vol. 22: A New Beginning (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Okay except for the ending. Good stuff there. Hard to remember what happens with all the time between tpb. Summary for me to remember.Carl whined a lot, made some wooden animals, and is now an apprentice blacksmith so he can whine to a molten fire.Rick grew a huge beard. They lead hordes away like cattle.New group came and is now questioning Adrian because they believe something odd is happening.People dressing up as zombies to hide. MILD SPOILERS THROUGHOUTAfter the devastating war between Negan’s faction and the Alexandria Safe-Zone and its allies that spanned two volumes, our protagonists get their biggest respite of the series. It’s obvious that some time has passed—Carl looks more man than child, crops are growing, the settlements are preparing for a fair, there is lots of work on horseback (they don’t say, but I can only assume Kirkman has finally admitted implicitly that gasoline doesn’t stay stable forever). This should be boring, but it isn’t. After volume after volume of fighting for survival, we get to see how humanity could go about beginning to rebuild society. It works because it’s well thought out and because we’ve fought and bled with these characters. We know what they’ve been through to get to this point. And then the unveiling of a chilling new enemy. I can’t wait.
